The excitement of Christmas, larger crowds, tired and harassed shoppers - it is easy for children to get separated from their parents or carers at this time of year. However with the introduction of Child Safe, Croydon Town Centre has become one of the safest places for families to do their Christmas shopping this year. |
|
Shoppers can pick up a free, colourful wristband onto which they write their mobile telephone number. Children in their care then wear the band throughout their stay in Croydon’s Town Centre, and in the event that they become separated anyone finding the child can quickly make a call to let their families or carers know where their loved one has wandered off to.
A call to the helpline number 08700 62 19 16 if a child is lost will also ensure that the control room immediately begins a coordinated search across the Town Centre. Shops displaying the number and recognizable Child Safe logo act as child safe zones for separated children with staff aware of what to do if there is a problem.
It’s simple but very effective, and families should look out for the Child Safe Zone’s smiley orange balloon stickers on shop windows up and down the high street to find stores involved in the scheme.
Wristbands are available from the Whitgift Centre, Allders, Centrale, Croydon Central Library and Croydon Council’s ‘One Stop’.
